Cancer Research Scientist

Dr Christine Napier - Funded 2014

PROJECT: Study of Telomeres

GOAL: To better understand how cancer cells develop the ability to grow forever, compared to normal cells.

Dr Christine Napier received research funding through a grant administered by Cure Cancer Australia with funding provided by Fight on the Beaches from our inaugural charity ball in 2014.

A key interest in her career has been the study of telomeres, tiny structures at the end of your DNA that protect it from being damaged. The underlying philosophy is that if scientists can understand what’s happening in a cell, they may be able to target those mechanisms to design anti-cancer drugs.
